Biofuel research team on top after the IRST first contract performance evaluation

The result from the September 12, 2008 evaluation of performance contract at the Institute of Scientific and Technological Research has put on the fist rank the research team which worked on the biofuel project with 87.6 % of the points.

This success is due to the incomparable capacity of the biodiesel made by the IRST biofuel laboratory based at Mulindi wa Kanombe in Kigali, the Capital of Rwanda.

During the performance evaluation, one could see parked outside of the IRST meeting room the green car driven with the IRST biodizel from Kigali.

In his word of thanks to the all IRST staff, the Director General of IRST thanked particularly the biofuel research team for their “staying power”.

“We have finished operating the last trials on that car at midnight (September 12, 2008). It is a tiring work, every body among you is aware of it,” said Dr J. Baptiste Nduwayezu, the IRST Director General.

He also urged the IRST researchers to go on working hard so as to find the solutions to the Rwandans problems through the research.

“Nobody among you should pretext that he has no time to finish his research. Even though I have the responsibility of administration, I have a research team and my team is not on the last rank in terms of fulfilling the contract of performance,” declared Dr Nduwayezu.

On the microphone of Radio Salus, after the evaluation of contract performance, Mr Audace Kanshahu, the IRST Director of Unit of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (UPME), said that the biodiezel was running the car engine very well.

“Seeing the car rolling you cannot believe it is being run by the biofuel,” said Kanshahu.

He added that the biofuel usage reduces the air pollution and this project will create new employment for the Rwandans.

The biofuel project was launched in April 2007. The IRST biofuel laboratory which is situated in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda has got the capacity of producing 2,000 litters of biofuel per a day. It uses as row materials the palm oil, molinga oreifera oil, jatropha oil, soybeans oil etc.
